Coca-Cola May Be Developing A Recovery Drink Using Weed

By Melissa Kreutz - Sep 18, 2018

It’s no surprise cannabis and beverage companies have begun discussing partnerships. The Cannabis industry is now booming and it seems there is room for everyone. This year, both major beer companies, Corona and Coors have invested in separate cannabis firms. With hope of eventually producing drinks that will intoxicate consumers, similar to smoking weed.

And then on Monday morning, news dropped that the major beverage corporation, Coca-Cola, is now interested in jumping on the weed wagon. According to BBN Bloomberg, Coca-Cola and Aurora Cannabis Ink. are in the process of having “serious talks” about a new business partnership.

Unlike its alcohol competitors, Coca-Cola hopes to create a ‘Recovery Drink’. Which will aim to ease consumers pain rather than intoxicate. Sources reported to BNN Bloomberg that Coca Cola is interested in developing new beverages using cannabidiol. Or CBD, which is the non-psychoactive chemical found in marijuana plats. There is already a large market for CBD usage and research. Which means a partnership with a major company like Coca-Cola would be huge for the industry.

While discussions between Cola and Aurora remain unknown, the sources are still speaking off the record. However, when asked how far the deal has gone it was stated “They’re pretty advanced down the path.” an unknown source said.

While nothing has been definitively confirmed, both companies offered their own accounts to CNBC. Coca-Cola presented the following statement, “Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world. The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”

Aurora added, “Aurora has expressed specific interest in the infused beverage space, and we intend to enter that market. There is so much happening in this area right now and we think it has incredible potential. As a rule, we do not discuss business development initiatives until they are finalized. However we have a responsibility to our shareholders to give proper consideration to all relevant opportunities that are presented.”

It seems like it will be a waiting game for us consumers eager to try the beverages claiming to mellow us out. Though CBD can be purchased in every form; from coffee grinds and bath bombs to Chap-stick and daily vitamins.

You don’t have to wait for the beverage corporations to decide for themselves. A quick google search will bring you to companies who have already found the power in the hemp flower.
